After leaving Coningsby, my journey home took me down the M11 so, with the sun coming out, I decided to stop and spend a couple of hours on the mound at Stansted - my first visit to the airport for some two years. 

As ever, there were plenty of Ryanair aircraft. None of their Max aircraft were about, but I did get to see my first Malta Air machines:

Another new airline for me was Iceland's Play:

This Mexican registered Legacy was the best of the corporate:

RAF Coningsby, 29th July, 2021

My main target for my day in Lincolnshire was RAF Coningsby.

By the time I arrived at the base I was feeling very hungry, and I was looking forward to getting some breakfast from the van in the spotters car park. However, a crisis when I arrived - it wasn't there! I had little choice but to return to the village and see what delights the Co-Op had in store.

I finally arrived in Reedham Lane to watch the day's action at 0945 with an eclectic mix of food for breakfast! The advantage of a late arrival was that I didn't have long to wait before the first movements started:

It was good to see the display jet:

And it was possible to get very close to the aircraft taxying out from the southern dispersals:

Once the main action the day was over, the BBMFs Hurricane came out for a quick flight:

And a Globemaster flew over on a low level training mission:

It was an early departure at 0700 from East Midlands after I checked out of my hotel and set course for a day military spotting in Lincolnshire. 

My first stop was RAF Barkston Heath. Five Prefect's were parked up awaiting the day's activity:

East Midlands, 28th July, 2021

After a night in a hotel at the airport, I arrived back at Diseworth Lane at 0948 and was delighted to get a 'front row' place to watch the day's action shortly after arriving.

The Kalitta 747 looked pretty amazing as it left for Los Angeles:

Things got pretty quiet over lunchtime and the afternoon, but G-THFC arrived from RAF Marham with Prince Charles on board, leaving later for Inverness: 

Blue Islands ATR G-ISLM arrived from Jersey:

Several corporate aircraft came and went - this Indian registered Global was the most exotic, but it only went as far as Luton! 

As the afternoon became evening, the freight operation slowly kicked into gear. LZ-CGS had daystopped, it left for Bergamo: 

Thunderstorms had been forecast - luckily, they avoided the airport, but a few claps of thunder were heard, and lightening was seen. The cloud formations were pretty impressive as well - as it must have been a turbulent arrival for many flights!

Amid the cargo flights, Easyjet arrived on their new service from Belfast International:

As the evening became night, TUI 787-9 G-TUIO arrived on a cargo flight from Miami:

The Cargologic 747 that had gone tech the previous night had obviously been fixed, as it left just before 10pm:

It was amazing how many people were still around, watching the aircraft when I left after an absolutely legendary session at 22:08!

A fast drive via the A14 and M1 saw me arriving at East Midlands with around 45 minutes of daylight left to enjoy the action.

RAF Mildenhall, 27th July, 2021

After my successful trip to Mildenhall and East Midlands at the beginning of June, I decided to do a similar trip at the end of July.

Like the month before, the trip started at Mildenhall. However, the weather was very different to my earlier visit, the hot, sunny weather was replaced with low cloud cover and - for lunchtime - rain. However, the good news was that it was much busier.

I arrived at Folly Road at 0830, and this wasn't a moment too soon, with 16-5850 taxying out to the runway for departure. However, it spent over an hour at the threshold waiting to take off as REACH1031:

However, during the wait, several other aircraft took off. It is always good to see a civilian aircraft at Mildenhall, and ABX Air 767 N312AA left for Ramstein while the Hercules waited, having arrived from the US earlier that morning:  

Another very interesting aircraft that crept out under the gaze of the Herc was ZZ331. MADRAS29 was operating from Mildenhall as a consequence of runway problems at Brize Norton. Its return to Mildenhall was delayed by heavy rain, but when the Voyager did finally make an approach, it was good to get a shot of it with one of the based KC-135s:

And the great thing about the Folly Road location is that there are always a few Stratotankers to admire while you wait for the next movement:

As the afternoon became evening, it became apparent that the action was over for the day, so I left at 1745, hoping to reach East Midlands before it got dark.
