Compton Abbas, 9th October, 2021

Compton Abbas is a lovely little airfield, making it one of my favourite destinations. The best time to go is during the Pooley's Fly In weekend, when the airfield gets very busy indeed. Since I hadn't been for a few years, I planned to make a weekend of it, and booked accommodation nearby.

However, the forecast for the weekend was for heavy rain, so I reluctantly decided to abandon my trip. However, the following weekend promised much better weather, and there was also a Vintage Fly In taking place, so I decided to go for the Saturday.

I always enjoy the drive to Compton Abbas, along the A303 past Stonehenge. However, today, it was difficult to relax, as there was plenty of fog about. On arriving at the airfield - the highest in England - it was clear that there would be no flying, with very think fog present.The fog lasted for the next hour, starting to lift - despite several false hopes earlier - at around 1130 and flying starting at midday.

Despite the auspicious start, the airfield soon got very busy. Several Chipmunks arrived, WP805 was the most colourful:

This Cabri G2 treated the spectators to a spritely arrival, although I'm not sure was exactly a vintage aircraft though!

Despite the worrying start, it really was an excellent day out at this most lovely of airfields. Here is log:
